Obtaining an apostille involves a little simpler procedure than having your documents legalised, since with an apostille there is no requirement to have documents legalised at the diplomatic mission (embassy) of the country in which the documents are intended to be used. The higher authentication process is thus completed at ministerial level or at the Notarial Chamber of the Czech Republic where documents have an apostille certificate attached to them. In the Czech Republic, this certificate is issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Ministry of Justice issues this certificate for judicial documents and the Notarial Chamber for notarial documents. Documents with an apostille certificate are recognised by countries that are party to the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961 (the Apostille Convention). They include European Union member states and other countries, such as Great Britain, Norway, Switzerland, Ukraine, Iceland, Russia, Belarus, Turkey, Israel, India, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, the USA and South Korea.
